I started this site early 2020, just before Covid hit with big dreams of learning something new, pursuing my passion of wellness and creating a resource directory to help those who needed a community of helpers. I can’t say this has been easy and I have been sidelined by so many distractions over the years. Even coming back to learn how to blog and put together this post after months of complete avoidance has been an accomplishment unto itself.
But guess what? as I write this I am already beginning to feel re-centred on my purpose and what drives me. Often at the beginning of the year, we take on resolutions that seem insurmountable and then fizzle out within a few weeks because we just cant keep up with it, then we get disappointed in ourselves and just give up. And then the rest of 10 months of the year just becomes an obstacle course of RE-action vs DRIVE-action towards what we intended for ourselves.
A few tips and life learnings I found successful in helping me not give up on my goals:
Start BIG and choose only one goal that is so meaningful to you that you get goose bumps just thinking about it, don’t give it an end date.
Break down all steps into baby steps that will help you achieve that BIG goal – group them in key task categories, make end dates for these
Create momentum by first starting on the ones you find the hardest (eg. for me it was asking/calling on other people for help)
Incorporate these baby steps into your daily life, make it your priority at the top of your list BEFORE work, the kids, the husband, friends etc.
Celebrate and pat yourself on the back for accomplishing them each time, and more importantly forgive yourself if you couldn’t accomplish it that day but put it back at the top of your next to-do list
Repeat steps 1-6 and look back every 3 months on what HAS been accomplished, not what has not
Recognizing that some goals take years with many twists and turns, and that that is ok because you are changing and growing as you work towards it.
