Abundance and How to Feel It

Abundance…that elusive word we are constantly searching for in our wellness journeys. But what is it really and how do you get it? According to Tony Robbins, a world renowned life coach. ‘An abundance mindset is the belief that there are enough resources in the world for everyone – and of being grateful for whatever the universe provides. It’s often talked about in contrast with a scarcity mindset, or the belief that the world’s resources are finite – when someone gets something, that leaves less for everyone else.’

So that seems to be achieved easily enough, be grateful and you will feel abundant right? What no one tells you is that while you can feel abundance in a moment, staying consistent and practicing it daily is HOW you will feel truly abundant. And much like a daily exercise routine that strengthens your body, one must have a practice that will help challenge your mindset and create new pathways to a different way of thinking.

From the daily grind of working, taking care of the kids, chores, financial responsibilities and finding time to take care of yourself, these daily layers can add up to build a thick wall, preventing you from feeling your abundance. Following are some practical ways I work on achieving an abundant mindset, slowly changing it over time. It’s not an easy task, it takes a conscious effort to appreciate what you have in life when each day the world seems to work against you.

PART 1: Questions I ask myself to see the daily gifts I take for Granted

PART 2: How giving can make you feel more Abundant

PART 3: Reminding Yourself of What you have Proud of

PART 1: Below are the types of questions I ask myself to see the daily gifts I take for granted. These may sound mundane, but try them out and see how many you can answer with a yes.

  • Did I wake up today in a warm bed, in a safe place?
  • Did I have access to clean water that cleanses and nourishes me?
  • Did I think twice about the food I grabbed from the cupboard or fridge that I filled with the money I earned?
  • Did I notice that it was a privilege to have my health and independence, not having to physically rely on anyone or anything as I left the house?
  • Did I get a chance to walk through my safe neighborhood, not once fearing for my life?
  • Did I notice my partner, my friend or my colleague who was genuinely happy to see me?
  • Do I remember a time when I too had to take public transit and how this car I can now afford, buys me a new level of freedom?
  • Do I live in a country that allows me freedom of speech, religion and the opportunities to make my own destiny without reproach?

How many yes’s did you come up with? Try coming up with your own questions, take time to observe the daily things you do. You’ll soon see the norm you live your life with are actually gifts and while some are provided for by the universe, most others are a result of the efforts we have put into our own lives. Abundance is right there in front of you, you just need to pause to notice it. I’ll be back with Part 2 next week.
